2015-09-02 UN Promotes Social Inclusion

In July 2015 The UN Secretary general published a report: ‘Promoting social integration through social inclusion’.  See: http://www.un.org/Docs/journal/asp/ws.asp?m=A/70/179

The present report is the fifth in the series relating to social inclusion, social integration and social cohesion. The present report has been prepared in response to General Assembly resolution 68/131 of 18 December 2013 on promoting social integration through social inclusion. It builds on the findings of the four previous reports on social integration and provides an account of national efforts and the initiatives of the United Nations system aimed at promoting the civic, social, economic and political participation of persons belonging to groups or in situations in which they are vulnerable or marginalized.  It advocates the creation of a “society for all” based on respect for all human rights and the principles of equality among individuals, access to basic social services and promotion of the active participation of every member of society —in particular those belonging to groups or in situations in which they vulnerable or marginalized —in all aspects of life, including civic, social, economic and political activities, as well as in decision-making processes. Section two of the report offers an overview of regional approaches to social integration.
Australia is working in concert with UN; I refer you to my earlier blog 2015-07-20 The Advancing Community Cohesion Conference 15-17 July 2015 that deals with a conference ‘The Advancing Community Cohesion – Towards a National Compact Conference’ On 15-17 July I convened at University of Western Sydney (UWS) Parramatta Campus on 15-17 July.   For the ACCC program see: Conference booklet
